Good old bus with a cab big enough to have a barn dance in, and a steering lock you need 25 acres to turn round in.
Gear linkage a bit fancy and subject to wear.
Not really a great road tractor, but excellent pto and heavy draught workhorse.
Cab parts such as door difficult to find replacememnts for. Good strong perkins engine, none turbo as standard, should do 10,000 hrs before rebuild if its been maintained well.
2640 massey pros/cons other than old.

anyone know much about them? any common issues to look for. Also how long is a 5.8 perkins good for? |
|
We bought one around the early 80's. We thought it was good until we traded it for a JD4250. The perkins motor started to slobber around 4000-5000 hours, but head gasket and rings were all they needed to get you to +/- 7000 hours. The transmission was fairly solid apart from oil leaks. Make sure its FWA as the 2WD would not pull the ring off a can of coke. |

They are good soid tractors 90 pto HP and a completely different transmission than a 2675 2705. The 2640 was a prodution tractor in France along with the 3500 series, they took the place of the 2000 series that had problems. |

anything in particular to watch for on them that you know of there onion farmer? |

I have 1, bought new , has 8000 hrs. No computer, pretty simple to service, very reliable good solid tractor. Have rebiult the motor [burnt valves]. Couple of ac compressors, not the best cold starting , needs either. had to put seals in clutch slave cyl. Could use more hp for its size and wt. as it is over built for 90 hp rating. If the former owner has taken care of it , i would'nt be afraid of it |
|
I was going to say the slave cyl on the clutch, looks like the other post has had that problem. It is not big deal but you have to put in all new updated parts for the slave cy. |

ya french built one
there was a 2620 and 2680 and 2720 in that series too
they were a solid old duck |
